About Us

"And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested."

1 Chronicles 4:10

Jabez Christian Community Church was founded by Rev. Jamila J. Woods, with the first service taking place on Sunday, April 29, 2012. The name Jabez represents a righteouss man in the Scriptures whose mother named him,  as a result of her pain.

Despite his circumstances, Jabez prayed that God would bless him, expand his territory and allow him to be a blessing, not causing pain to others because of evildoing. When a Charter member, Ms. Lori Wheeler, articulated the impact of this scripture on her life and her family, and the experience of many of the members, Rev. Jamila and the soon-to-be Jabez Family immediately agreed that the name Jabez and his prayer resonated with their own vision and testimony.

The Ministry vision for Jabez includes a commitment to reconciliation of man to God, outreach and social justice ministry.  The Ministry has been active participants in the Warm Nights (Prince George's County) and Safe Nights Program.  Jabez is a part of the Partnership for Renewal in Southern and Central Maryland (PRISCM).
